Es begann mit einem Besuch weit draußen in recht unwegsamen Gelände bei einer jungen AVTI-Absolventin, die täglich zu ihrer Freundin geht, weil sie dort eine Nähmaschine nutzen kann und damit täglich sechs bis acht Kunden bedient. Aus der Idee, sie mit einer eigenen Nähmaschine auszurüsten, die sie innerhalb von eineinhalb Jahren zurückzahlen kann, über die Erweiterung, eine Gruppe mit einigen Maschinen und Material auszustatten, ist inzwischen der Entwurf für einen kleine Schneiderei geworden, die als Social Enterprise betrieben wird. Dort sollen Absolventinnen die Chance haben, erste Berufserfahrung zu sammeln und noch viel zu lernen, bevor sie sich gegebenenfalls in die Selbstständigkeit weiterentwickeln.
Zur Notwendigkeit, die jungen Frauen zu unterstützen, schreibt Emmanuel im entsprechenden Konzept:
„In the year 2023, 18 girls with an average age of 17 years graduated with a certificate awarded by Adilang Vocational Training Institute for qualification of a tailor level 1. The girls have taken different directions, some returned to school for level 2 training, some got married, some still at home with parents unable to start up business and others unaccounted due to loss of contact.
The idea of skilling these young girls is to give them a skill that improves their livelihood, to enable them earn a living to support their families, avoid early marriage and possibly develop desire to continue in their career paths. The bottleneck post their education is that majority of these girls are unable to get basic capital to start up their business and put in best use their skills. When the skills are redundant for long, it might dissipate and the envisioned impact of the training will not be realized.“
Das vorgeschlagene Konzept ist für zehn Absolventinnen ausgelegt und hat die folgenden Ziele
- Create a business hub and resources pooling for the girls
- Develop a value chain for tailoring materials, equipment and marketing opportunities
- Provide a platform for value addition on their skills and knowledge transfer in the areas of fashion and design
- Operationalize tailoring as a social enterprise for sustainability of the Dongo Paco activities
Im Einzelnen ist folgendes geplant:
- Enroll the girls who graduated from AVTI and intend to pool their knowledge and skills in one place. The girls will be integrated with an existing experienced tailor for further apprenticeship and mentorship.
- Selected tailoring machines, materials, tools and equipment will be provided to them as grant and the tailoring workshop located in Adilang Trading Centre will be rented for 12 months to house the tailors. The workshop will have a supervisor/ head which will carry out duties of book keeping, marketing, communication and sales, etc. This supervisor will be accountable to Dongo Paco foundation for further oversight roles.
- We will partner with an established tailor business from the big cities who will provide extra training to the tailors in this workshop through exchange visit and on-site learning to upgrade their skills. With the support of the partner business we intend to integrate further skills such as branding, labelling and embroidery as value addition to the tailors.
- Each tailor will be given 12 months in the tailor’s workshop to recover the investment of the machines and tools allocated to them and thereafter they can take the machine as their own. The recovered funds will be used to buy machines and materials for the next apprenticeship group and the cycle continues.
Erreicht werden soll folgendes:
- Graduate of tailoring from the AVTI will find a place to operationalize their skills under the mentorship of a senior tailor.
- The partnership with business will bring real world situations to the graduate tailors and reduce the gaps of know-how from small village like Adilang and big cities
- The acquired grants for materials, tools and equipment comes with a business support for the tailors which encourage to them in the industry.
- Through resource pooling the tailors can bid for bigger jobs in the market such as making of school uniforms, wedding wears, etc. The community will be able experience the holistic approach of Dongo Paco with their learners.
Wir halten dies für ein überaus attraktives Konzept, um den jungen Frauen den Start in die Eigenständigkeit zu ermöglichen.
Um das Konzept wie vorgeschlagen zu finanzieren, sind ca. 7.500 Euro erforderlich. Wir hoffen, dass wir einige Unterstützer gewinnen können. Diesbezügliche Spenden sollten mit dem Stichwort „Schneiderei“ gekennzeichnet werden.
Ich bin tief beeindruckt über diese Fortsetzung des Schulprojektes, wie viele Möglichkeiten für die jungen Leute damit eröffnet werden. Das Projekt der Förderung der Schneiderinnen wird Vorbild für die anderen Ausbildungszweige – vor meinem geistigen Auge sehe ich in Zukunft eigenständige Schneidereien, Baumschulen, Gärtnereien, kleine Baufirmen …… und so freue ich mich schon heute auf die Berichte aus Adilang in 10 Jahren 🙂
